Overview

This policy applies to somethingunder.com, the website of the game Something Under. The website is a static site. It uses no cookies, no tracking in your browser, no third-party analytics services and no advertising. We only create access statistics from the server logs on our own server (see below). No personal data is sent to us through forms, sign-ups or any other input. Fonts, images and videos are served from our own server; the only exception is the trailer, which is loaded from YouTube only after you click it (see below).

Hosting and server logs

The website is hosted by netcup GmbH, Emmy-Noether-Straße 10, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany, on a server in their Nuremberg data centre. When you open the website, the server processes technically necessary data that your browser sends automatically:

The purpose is to deliver the website and to keep it stable and secure, including defending against and analysing attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation). Log data is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for these purposes, after 30 days at the latest. The log files are rotated daily and deleted automatically after 30 days.

From these logs we create aggregated access statistics with the software GoAccess on the same server, for example page views, browser, operating system and country of origin. The country is derived from the IP address using a geolocation database stored on the server. No cookies are set for this, nothing tracks you in your browser, and no data is passed to third parties. The statistics are only accessible to us, protected by a password. The purpose is to understand how the website is used; the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. In the statistics, IP addresses are only stored in shortened (anonymised) form. We keep the aggregated statistics for about 13 months (400 days) to see how visitor numbers develop over time; we do not evaluate individual visits or people.

The host processes this data exclusively in Germany. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with netcup.

Cookies and local storage

This website does not set cookies. If you choose a language or close the hint about another language version, the page stores a marker in your browser's local storage so that the hint does not appear again. This value stays on your device, is not sent to us, and can be deleted in your browser settings. Storing it is strictly necessary for the function you requested (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). Apart from that, nothing on your device is accessed as long as you do not start the trailer.

Trailer on YouTube

The trailer is embedded from YouTube. Until you click the play button, the page only shows a preview image from our own server, and no data is sent to YouTube or Google.

Only after your click does your browser load the player from youtube-nocookie.com (YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode). From then on, Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, processes data such as your IP address, information about your device and browser, and the address of our page. YouTube may use cookies or similar technologies on your device. Google may also transfer data to countries outside the EU, in particular to the USA. For details, see Google's privacy policy.

The legal basis is your consent given by clicking (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future: if you reload the page, the player is no longer loaded, and you can delete cookies set by YouTube in your browser. Without JavaScript, the play button is a link to youtube.com; if you follow it, Google's privacy policy applies there.

Links to other websites

Links, for example to photonenwerk.com or later to the game's Steam page, are only opened when you click them. The privacy policies of those providers apply there.

Recipients and third countries

Personal data is processed only by the host named above and, after you click the trailer, also by Google (see above). Beyond that, no data is transferred to third parties or to countries outside the EU. We do not sell data. We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3)). A message to the email address above is enough.

Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for the controller is the Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg, Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, Germany.

Changes

This privacy policy is updated as soon as the processing described here changes. Last updated: October 2026.
